Comparing Auto Insurance Online
No time to sit on the phone and pushing buttons until you finally get the information you need to compare auto insurance rates? If you compare online, you will save time and frustration. Auto insurance rates can change daily, so it pays to shop around and compare every few months.
In order to save even more time, before you shop make sure you have this info within reach:
- Name, address, and birthdays of everyone you want on the policy
- Your current policy for comparison
- Make, model and year of the vehicles you want to insure
- Driving records of everyone you want to insure
Now you’re all set to compare rates and get the best policy for your money!
When you compare rates online, you’ll want to make sure you’re not just saving money, you’re getting the policy that best suits you. Keep these things in mind while you shop rates:
Apples to Apples: No, I’m not talking about the game! When you find really good rates, it’s often tempting to just stop there and buy, but are you really getting a good deal? Make sure you’re comparing apples to apples or you could wind up leaving something big out of your policy in exchange for that really low rate. And remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Insurance Companies: Check out the financial and customer service ratings of the top five or so companies you are considering. Are they secure? Do they take care of their clients? How do their clients rate them on claims service? Are their representatives in your area? Is that important to you? Are they available 24/7 and, again, is that important to you?
Discounts: When you are comparing and are eligible for a discount, are you comparing the same discounts at each company? If not, what is the trade in, or what are you giving up at the company that doesn’t give you that discount to get similar or better rates than the company that does give you the discount?
Payment: How do these companies want to be paid? Do they offer discounts for electronic payments? Do they offer a discount if you pay a term in full?
Coverage: This may be the hardest part. You need to look at what you’re getting, but also, what aren’t you getting for that low rate? Do you want towing and rental car coverage? Are you getting enough coverage to protect you and your assets? You can be sued for your assets, like stocks, house, retirement, if an accident incurs more expenses than your policy covers. Minimum coverage is not always the best option, especially if you have accumulated assets.
Shopping online for auto insurance can save you lots of time and quite a bit of money! It always pays to comparison shop.
